The verified Reading Lantern powers eligible XP, quests, streaks, achievements, and seasonal progress. You can light it from Progress, directly inside a Reading Room, or directly inside a Buddy Read without leaving the conversation.

Your individual Lantern timer runs while you read. Social rooms also show active readers’ personal reading time.

Extinguish the Lantern and enter your ending page, pages read, or audiobook listening position. Your verified activity flows into the same reading history and rewards.
Lantern rules & reward limits
Simply joining a Reading Room or leaving a chat tab open does not earn XP. Reward-bearing activity comes from your verified personal Reading Lantern.
Lantern time accumulates across the day. Record progress to qualify: starting and ending pages for books, pages read for General reading, or starting and ending listening positions in minutes for audiobooks. Very slow readers are accommodated, but a tiny page change cannot earn hours of reading credit. Rewards begin at 10 eligible minutes and count up to 600 minutes (10 hours) per day.
No periodic confirmation is needed. Pause when you step away, resume when you return, and finish by recording your page or listening position. Reading credit uses the elapsed unpaused timer and a generous maximum of 10 minutes per page, or up to twice the audiobook listening-position progress for slower playback.
Reading XP depends on eligible reading time and recorded progress: 2 XP at 10 minutes, 5 total at 30, 10 at 60, 15 at 120, 20 at 240, 25 at 360, and 30 at 600. Page-based quest credit is limited to three pages per eligible minute; your reported page total remains in your history. Sessions end at local midnight. Your reward timezone stays consistent while you are reading regularly.
Only one Reading Lantern session can run on your account at a time. Stop your current session before starting another.
Quick logs are manual reading statistics. They do not earn reward-bearing XP or quest credit; use the Reading Lantern for those activities.
Daily reading milestones award up to 30 XP, plus 10 XP for your daily visit. Monthly challenges, seasonal quests, and permanent achievements have their own bonuses. Your progress page shows the current totals.

Find your current book first
When Bramblelight knows what you are currently reading, discoverable rooms for that exact book are shown before the wider Reading Room directory. Public room cards show the book cover, title, author, room name, and current reader count.
Read and chat in one place
The room keeps a scrollable live chat, communal Lantern, room timer, reader presence, and each active reader’s smaller Lantern timer on one screen. Light or extinguish your own Lantern without navigating away.
Fast conversation
Press Enter to send a message. Use Shift+Enter when you actually want a new line.
Spoiler Shield
Mark a Reading Room message as a spoiler and other readers see it hidden until they deliberately choose Reveal anyway.
Buddy Reads
Read the same book at different speeds.
Live chat
Buddy Reads use the same scrollable chat-room feel as Reading Rooms. Enter sends; Shift+Enter adds a new line.
Progress-aware spoilers
Messages default to your current reading position. Readers behind you see the message locked until they catch up or intentionally reveal it.
Buddy Lantern
The room timer, communal Buddy Lantern, individual reader timers, and your own verified Lantern controls all stay visible while you chat.
